SPOT FIX by the Citizenship Programme of the space beneath the Moolchand Flyover

On 9 January, 2016, the Citizenship Programme, in collaboration with the citizen- volunteers' group, New Delhi Rising, undertook a SPOT FIX beneath the Moolchand Flyover on 9th January 2016. Our young volunteers were Aanchal, Sadaf, Himanshi, Harshini, Mubashshir, Nikhil and Vidhi. Tushar Sir, Yogeshwari maam and Ms. Sangeeta Aswani accompanied them.

After a spot fix of the first part of the pillars on 20th December 2015, we now set out to make a difference to the balance area under the Moolchand Flyover.

These pillars were also badly vandalised with posters. At 9 am, the children divided the work area between the two pillars on the road connecting Defence Colony and Greater Kailash. They started scraping off / the posters with the brushes and cleaning up the areas that had been vandalised by random posters and garbage. After this, they applied a fresh coat of white paint to give it a clean and fresh look. When dry, they decorated the space by painting red circles of different sizes in an attractive pattern to match the earlier work done on the opposite side. After over 3 hours, we wrapped up for the day feeling good that we had managed to make a difference to such a prime location, with the pillars now sporting a new look in the front and at the back.

During the course of our work, many motorists stopped to ask about our activity, which school we belonged to and then spontaneously gave us a thumbs-up for our efforts! Many even took photographs. We are sure that next time you drive past the flyover, you wont be able to take your eyes off the hard work !

The remaining pillars under the adjoining Metro pillars and the walls alongside the flyover are to be reclaimed in the coming weeks.

A neighbourhood magazine, HYPER LOCAL, called for details of our programme. The article covering our Citizenship Programme and the Spot Fix initiative was covered in the magazine the following day.
