As part of Environment Week, the Pre primary department held an engaging storytelling session titled 'Birds on the Move – The Migration of the Flamingos'. The session sought to foster environmental awareness among the young learners by introducing them to the fascinating phenomenon of bird migration and encouraging an appreciation for wildlife and biodiversity.
The story was brought to life through an imaginative performance in which three teachers portrayed graceful flamingos, while another assumed the role of a lively narrator parrot. Dressed in colourful sunglasses and carrying miniature suitcases, the flamingos symbolised the excitement of their migratory journey, creating an immersive and interactive learning experience.
The presentation seamlessly combined expressive storytelling, music and movement to captivate the young audience. Through the narrative, students learned that flamingos migrate to Chilika Lake in Odisha in search of abundant food, favourable climatic conditions and safe breeding grounds.
The session also highlighted the impact of changing weather patterns and environmental degradation on the migration of birds, reinforcing the importance of conserving natural habitats and protecting the environment. A lively rendition of the Birdie Dance further enriched the experience, with the children enthusiastically joining in and celebrating the journey of the flamingos through dance and music.
The storytelling session successfully blended education with creativity, enabling students to explore the wonders of migratory birds in an engaging and age-appropriate manner. The enthusiastic participation of the children reflected both their enjoyment and their growing understanding of the need to protect biodiversity and preserve the natural world.
The activity served as a meaningful reminder that fostering environmental consciousness from an early age can inspire a lifelong commitment to conservation.
