Summer Internship at a retail store-Bikaner
This year for our internship we were sent to a departmental chain Bikaner located in Kailash Colony Market. It lasted two days i.e. 3rd and 4th June and gave us an insight on a wide range of topics relating to business and sales.
On 3rd June we left for our internship from School accompanied by our class teacher, Ms. Neha Agarwal. On reaching the venue, we were introduced to the owner and other staff members at the store. Afterwards, we were left to walk around and note carefully the products being sold and observe the overall management of the place.
After our initial round of observation, we were asked to spend time with the customers that came to the store, understanding their demands and most importantly observe the behaviour of the staff with them. Once a customer had bought his or her requirements, we were directed to the cash counter to try our hand at billing. The helpful staff helped us operate the barcode scanner and print bills for the customers. They also showed us how to make out a bill for a credit card payment.
Being commerce students, the most interesting part for us was to observe the promotion of new products and recording their details. With this our first day of hands-on experience came to an end leaving us geared up for the next day and it's new challenges.
On the 4th, we assisted the staff in listing out the products required to be procured and observed the process of placing orders with the suppliers for the same. Upon receiving delivery of the ordered stock, we helped to careful check it and enter their records. Thereafter we were shown how to arrange the products in the store for the convenient access of customers.
Before we knew itbthe two days were done and reluctantly we returned to our routines! With gratitude we had had a chance to watch the theories and rules of our classrooms come alive!
