Teacher workshop on Skype classrooms

A teacher workshop on classroom interface on Skype as an effective and innovative teaching-learning tool, was conducted by Vice Principal, Ms. Sukhmeen Cheema on 26th June 2019. The workshop began with Ms. Cheema showing a short video on how to integrate Skype in classroom learning to make lessons more engaging. She described a variety of Skype collaboration projects created by educators to convert classrooms around the world in both, one time projects and ongoing ones. When children acquire a feeling of interconnectedness with their peers around the world, they are better informed and more motivated to discover for themselves. Ms. Cheema suggested that teachers can register on education.microsoft.com to quickly become a part of Skype in the classroom enthusiasts community. This could help them view and also contribute toideas on how best to deploy Skype collaborations in different subject areas and across age groups and connect to educators around the world. She demonstrated ways in which Skype allowed the learners to explore beyond the walls of their classrooms. The ways suggested by her were: Virtual field Trips which would take the students on an adventure without leaving their classrooms .

Invite an author by setting up a Skype session so that the students could engage with new dimensions of reading and writing skills. Interview an expert by conducting a question-answer session. Cultural exchange where students could learn about unfamiliar cultures by connecting with a class overseas. Mystery Skype which serves as an educational tool that allows two classes to guess each others geographical location via yes / no questions. The enlightening session thus impressed upon the audience that By connecting classrooms via Skype, teachers can strive for a higher form of learning: Collaborative Learning- Koen Timmers.
