Teacher Workshop on NEP and Gifted School Student Education

Gifted Education Trust and Venkatesh Trust for Education and Excellence organised a panel discussion on "Implementation of New Education Policy on Gifted Education in School" at the India International Centre on 4 February 2023. Ms Deepa Chugh and Ms Suman Aswal from our School attended this mega event with about 100 teachers, students and their parents from schools across Delhi-NCR.

The session commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. This was followed by the presentation of projects by students from 7-8 prominent Delhi schools who had participated in the "Gifted Student Programme" run by the Gifted Education Trust. Middle school students from Modern School Barakhamba Road, The HDFC School, Ramjas School and some others presented their science and mathematics-based projects like Smart Desk, Paraali to Paper, Cheno Poa Paper, Digital Diet, Door Knock Lock, Chilli Cutter etc. These projects were innovative and application-based working models. The diverse audience was impressed by the young innovators' ideas and confidence.

Chief Guest, Shri Himanshu Gupta, IAS, Director of Education, GNCT of Delhi, felicitated the participating students and their mentor teachers. The esteemed guest also released a book on gifted children.

Ms Anuradha Rai, Director of Ambience Public School, moderated the panel discussion on 'Implementing Gifted Education in School: Prospects for Industry 4.0 and the World'. The panel comprised Principals of Lotus Valley, Ramjas School, ASN School and a project mentor from Gifted Education Trust.

The panel discussed how incorporating the plan for gifted students must be within regular school hours using zero and activity periods. The panel also acknowledged the pressing need to foster "Gifted Teachers" to mentor these children.

The NEP emphasises fostering these children to drive innovation and technology for nation-building. Hence, industry involvement in supporting and encouraging gifted children id sought as a significant boost towards achieving this goal.

The discussion concluded on an optimistic note that, with more and more schools recognising the need for special programmes for gifted children, society and the nation will surely benefit and flourish due to their endeavours.
