Teachers' workshop on Business Studies by Commerce Teachers' Foundation

Ms Pooja Bahl attended a one-day workshop for Business Studies teachers at Bal Bharati Public School, Rajendra Nagar on Saturday 11 July, 2015. It was organised by the Commerce Teachers' Foundation ( CTF), a premier institution engaged in the pursuit of motivating and guiding commerce teachers to professional excellence. IIM, Indore has undertaken research on the work and achievements of Dr. Dinesh Madan, founder- member and secretary, CTF and named its research work, 'Entrepreneur of a NGO'. CTF has organised several workshops in various parts of the country and has had participation of more than 30,000 students from four countries at its International Commerce Olympiad, 2014. Ms. Pooja Bahl was among thirty teachers, awarded by CTF for their contribution in the development of question banks in Accountancy and Business Studies for class XII as per the revised structure and design of question papers, as released by CBSE. More than 150 teachers from Delhi and NCR braved the heavy downpour on the day to attend the workshop conducted by one of the most coveted authors of Business Studies, Dr T.N. Chhabra. Dr. Chhabra has to his credit several teaching and mentoring assignments at the post graduate and doctorate levels in the fields of business organisation, business policy and marketing. He is currently Associate Professor at Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Delhi University. Dr. Chhabra addressed the vast gathering of teachers on how to build case studies. This is one of the most vital aspects of the class XII Business Studies exam. More than 95% of the Business Studies' paper is modelled on case studies which assesses the analytical and problem-solving skills of students. He discussed a few case studies with the teachers and also provided useful tips on how to address questions on these. Tips for attempting a case study 1. Read the case carefully. 2. Re-read the case. 3. Underline important facts. 4. Identify key issues. 5. Examine inter-relationships of the facts. 6. Analyse the issues using facts and figures. 7. Make suitable assumptions. 8. Search for and delineate alternatives. 9. Choose appropriate alternatives. 10. Suggest ways to implement the recommended courses of action.
