Top honours at Confluence 2016!

Inter school competition at St. Michaels School, Siliguri

Our journey began at the New Delhi Railway Station on 20th July 2016 for a 2 day inter-school debate and quiz at St. Michaels School, Siliguri. The events were held on 22nd and 23rd July.

The Rajdhani express took us to New Jalpaiguri Station from where we were travelled to Siliguri by car. We checked into the Savin Kingdom Hotel where the competition was going to be held. After freshening up and a hearty lunch, we retired to our rooms to rest for a while.

The quiz was scheduled for 22nd July. Our junior team consisted of Anthariksh Nair and Siddharth Khati of class V and Aryamaan Goswamy of class IV. After a set of gruelling rounds, our team was awarded the third prize.

While the juniors were celebrating their victory, the seniors nerves were on edge. Extensive research work was done on current affairs and topics that we might be tested on! The debate for the seniors was scheduled for 23rd July and comprised 3 rounds- the preliminary round with 13 schools, the semi final round with 4 schools and the final round - with 2 schools, one of which was ours'! We were now truly on the edge! Our group, being first time debaters at a big event scarcely expected to win, but sometimes the unexpected does happen and we simply could not believe our ears when The Indian School was announced at first position! We were simply bowled over and utterly delighted! It was a very proud moment for us, as the competition was tough, but with the support of our teachers we had accomplished the unexpected!

Avantika Chodha also received the award for Best Speaker.

With our heads held high, we returned to Delhi on 25th July, where our parents were waited anxiously to receive us despite a downpour. Although our journey had ended, the feeling of accomplishment at having secured the top prizes for our School will stay with us for a long time to come.
