Top honours at inter school music competition

St. Thomas Girls Senior Secondary School organised a week long inter-school competition from 25th to 29th July, 2017, aptly named EPIPHANY. The categories were Indian Music, English Debate and Western Music and Dance.

Music gives the universe to a soul, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. The Indian music event was SUR LEHRI.Our students were accompanied by Ms. Avneet Kaur, Mr. Adhir Das and Mr. Siddharth Dalbehera. The competition had 2 categories: Solo and Group.

Each school had to prepare an AR. Rehman composition for the group song. Only three instruments were allowed and teachers were allowed to accompany the students on the instruments. Most of the schools presented a medley of songs of the great composer. Our students performed the very famous A R. Rehman composition Radha kaise na jale from the movie Lagaan. The participants were Avreen Kaur (IX), Gunjan Anand (IX), Gurliv Kaur (IX), Dhruv Rathi (IX), Umar Hussain (IX), Ananya Sahdev (X), Dhriti Chatterjee (X), Jai Kapur (X), Unnat Sadh (X), Chirag Singh (XI), Milanpreet Kaur (XI) and Shivangini Sharma (XI). The singers were ably supported on the instruments by Karandeep Singh Kapoor (XII) on the keyboard, Mr. Siddharth Dalbehera (on the flute) and Mr. Adhir Das (on the tabla).

For the solo category, the participants were to select songs of either Kailash Kher or Shubha Mudgal. The participant from our school Shivangini Sharma (XI) sang the very famous composition Saiyyan, originally sung by Kailash Kher. Amongst the three judges for the event, Mr. Sudhanshu Bahuguna, the Guru of Kailash Kher gave expert tips of various ways of singing and performing better.

The Indian School won the second prize for both the categories and got the best school trophy for Indian Music.

The participants were overjoyed to hear the results! They were extremely proud to carry the honours back for their School.

Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.
