Top honours at inter school WTO conference

Keeping in mind the importance and relevance of the World Trade Organisation (W.T.O), Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar, organised an Academic Simulation of the WTO on 16 October 2019.
The conference witnessed a participation of 21 schools from across Delhi and NCR, as delegates of different countries. The five main themes that were addressed were: Digital Economy, Food Security, Unfolding Trade Wars, Future of Multilateral Trade Agreements and The Future and Relevance of RCEP for India and the ASEAN.
Our School team received the theme The Future of Multilateral Trade Agreements with the sub topic The member countries of WTO have benefitted in terms of increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Outward Direct Investment (ODI) in their respective priority sectors. Our team comprising Aryan Seth (XII-B) and Twisha Kacker (XI-C), played the delegates of India and were adjudged Best Speakers.
The conference was a great learning experience for the participants. The panel consisting of chief guest Mr Jayant Das Gupta, representative of India at the WTO and Mr Praveen Kumar, jury member, who shared information regarding the working of WTO. They provided an insight on the different themes which greatly enhanced our knowledge of the subject and helped us develop an outlook of the global economic structure. The experience gave us an introduction to the world of international trade and the running of the World Trade Organisation.
