Top honours at the MTNL Mela
A group of gifted artists of The Indian School participated in a mela-cum-competition for the performing arts, fine art, science model-making, and dramatics aptly called the MTNL Perfect Health Mela 2018-19. The mela was jointly hosted by MTNL and the Govt. of Delhi from 24 October to 27 October.
Our team of talented students participated in the following categories- Group singing (Indian vocal), Indo-Western fusion music, Indian folk dance, aerobics, western dance, yoga, slogan writing, poster making, painting, Hindi skit, Nukkad Natak and scientific model making.

On 24 October, skilled teams from various schools vied with one another to impress the judges and audience alike in the Hindi skit, art and choreography competitions at the senior school level. Our team of twelve students competed in the Inter-School Skit competition with panache to win the second position Their play was enjoyed by all and drew much applause. The cast of actors included Rishabh Khanna-IX, Shayan Sabharwal-IX, Shourya-IX, Zunairah-IX, Roshan-IX, Dakshita- IX, Abhinit-IX, Shreya-IX, Aditya-IX, Gracie-XI, Vishesh-XI, Saksham-XI, Kusum-XI, Pratyaksh-XI, Harsheen-XI.
In the choreography competition, our team of talented dancers performed a fusion of Bhangra and Arabic dance. The dancers used big blue wings to create a dramatic effect. Their electrifying moves transported the audiences to the plains of Punjab and the deserts of Arabia! Over 13 teams participated in the competition. The Indian School bagged the first prize in this category. The second prize was bagged by DPS R K Puram and the third prize went to DPS Vasant Kunj. Risha-IX, Sharanya Mushran-IX, Punya Chawla-IX, Gauri Sachdeva-IX, Priyanshi-IX, Keesha Charaya-IX, Vedant Gupta-X, Sancia Dubey-X, Nidhi Daga-X, Aarushi Anand-X, Bhumika Juneja-X, Khanak-X, Nayantara Khan-X, Mohak Gupta-X, Simran Chugh-XI, Aman Chatlani-XI, Nitansh Anand-XI, Tushar Karthikeyan-XI & Gunjan Anand-X.
On 26 October our teams participated in the instrumental fusion music (Indo-Western) for classes IX-XII and group singing (VI VIII) with much success. They bagged the first prize for their rendition of a self-composed melody Mamma's Khichdi, a reflection of India's modern culture and diversity, which was blended with the famous raga Hansadhwani. Their performance was well received by the judges and the audience. The band of performers comprised Saksham Channana IX (Electric Guitar), Uday Beswal X (Keyboard),Leisha Maini IX, Ayush Bhardwaj IX, Piyush Chittoria IX(Bongo), Khushi Saini IX (Bongo), Ayush Sharma IX (Violin), Sehaj Singh XII (Tabla), Krishna Ayyagari X (Flute) and Mehar Saxena XI C (Drums).
In the group singing category, the theme was My India wherein our melodious singers sang a medley of three songs in Hindi Hind Desh ke niwasi, in Marathi Mi dolkara and in Bengali Dola hei dola. Our students claimed the second position in this category for their cadenced and captivating performance. The victorious team members were the following: Singers: Rewa Upadhayay-VI, Kaavya Gera-VI, Pratham Goel-VI, Anush Malik-VI, Akshit Bhatia-VI, Hemang Gupta-VII, Pearl Gupta-VII, Shashwata Roy Chaudhary-VII, Aashvi Kaul-VII, Anshika Sood-VII, Bhavika K Bagaria-VIII, Adi Narayan Prakash-VIII, Eshita Daagal-VIII, Hitesh Pant-VIII, Palak Nagpal-VIII, Chandraboti Sengupta-VIII.
Instrument players: Kumar Ritovash-VII on the harmonium, Jayant Kumar-VIII and Devansh Mukhopadhyay-VIII on the tabla and Aryan Gulati-VIII on the tambourine.
A competition of this scale and magnitude strengthens ones confidence to face large audiences and also helps in developing awareness about one's surroundings and life happenings. The exposure proved to be a good learning experience for the learners and their mentors.
