Top honours at Vasantotsav 18-19

A group of talented students of The Indian School participated in Vasantotsav, an annual competition held at Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar on 8 December 2018. They were accompanied by teachers of the music and dance departments- Ms. Shuchismita Chatterjee, Mr. Adhir Das, Mr. Madhav and Mr. Siddharth Dalbehra. About 15 schools from across Delhi and NCR participated in this grand song and dance event.

The Indianite team took part in four categories-group folk song (class III to V), group folk song (class VI to X), group dance on a prevailing social issue (class III to V) and group folk dance (class VI to X). The participants were welcomed with a beautiful rendition of Saraswati Vandana by the host school choir. Thereafter, the competition commenced with the junior folk song category (class III V). Our mellifluous singers gave an award-winning performance of a Bihari folk song. The singing group of Yashovardhan Labh (III), Snigdha Naug (III), Oishee Haldar (IV), Upasana Khatua (IV), Navya Malhotra (V), Pragyaan Medhi (V), Nikhil Raja Kumar (IV), Ukta Mandal (IV), Anay Verma (V), Dyutikana Sen Gupta (V),Daksh Mohan (V) and Sonam Lhadon (V) captivated both judges and audience with their melodic rendition. They won the first position in this category.

[gallery link="file" order="DESC"] In the senior category, the gifted singers performed the popular Bengali folk song Shadher lau, a song based on the philosophy of life. The students bagged the second position in this category. The winner chorale included Pratham Goel (VI), Hemang Gupta (VII), Vatsal Gupta (VII), Kumar Ritovash (VII) both on vocal and harmonium, Chandraboti Sengupta (VIII), Dishi Anand (IX), Saarthak Malhotra (IX), Surveen Kaur (IX). They were accompanied by Mr. Siddharth Dalbehra on the flute and Mr. Adhir Das on the tabla. The last event in the senior category was the group folk dance wherein our students put forth a zestful routine of the vibrant Bhangra from Punjab. The pace and rhythm of the dhol captivated the audience as they swayed in tandem to its beats. The students won the second position in this category. The energetic dance troupe comprised of Shreya Verma (VI), Dhruv Pandey (VII), Gaurika Agarwal (VII), Parth Minocha (VII), Pavani Agarwal (VII), Pooja Jha (VII), Aadya Sharma (VIII), Aditya Matta (VIII), Ananya Sundresan (VIII), Gunika Jolly (VIII), Saransh Jha (VIII) and Shaumita Dasgupta (VIII). All the performances were diverse and beautiful, portraying the rich cultural heritage of India. The competition ended with the host school announcing the results for all the categories. Our school team was exultant having won topmost positions in three categories. Indeed, it was a great opportunity to learn more about the culture and tradition of India and our students gained new experience as budding artists. Ms. Shuchismita Chatterjee
