Urban Gardening Workshop
At our School, we believe that education needs to be holistic, contextual and empowering. We have always aimed at educating children with classroom and out-of-classroom interventions, engaging students on prominent issues relating to the environment, life skills and active citizenship.
To facilitate our way of thinking, Green Creeps an initiative by Swechha organised a gardening workshop on 5th August, 2016 for the children of class 5. The aim of the workshop was to empower each child to grow plants independent of land and other resources that may or may not be at their disposal.

Through demonstration and hands-on activities, Green Creeps showed the children how to create gardens on terraces, balconies, windows and even in kitchens and living rooms. According to them, small spaces in houses and schools could easily be converted into gardens through indoor plants (urban gardening) with a little ingenuity.
The children were exposed to new and easy techniques of planting. They recycled waste products such as plastic bottles were put to use in the garden. The children were guided on using mixed coco peat, perlite and volcanic lava rock, ingredients used in place of soil to plant
saplings.
When the children's planters were ready, they were given clear and easy instructions on how to tend them. Brimming with excitement, they couldnt wait to share their learning with those at home!
