Visit to Catalyst- a medical exhibition at AIIMS for senior students

The students union of the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) organised a medical exhibition, Catalyst 2017 on 28th April, 2017 at the institute. 31 students from our School from classes XI and XII visited this exhibition. We were accompanied by our teacher Ms. Ritu Mehndiratta.

An entrance fee to the exhibition was collected for the purpose of donation to the Angels Home Orphanage. The Orphanage would then use the amount towards paying School fees for the children at the orphanage.

In the beginning of the session we attended a quiz in the main auditorium. Then we were escorted to view the innumerable displays they had put up for the visitors. The exhibits were intriguing and informative. We observed various anatomical and pathological human specimens like the intestines, brain, heart, eyes, liver, spinal cord, human foetus, etc., to name just a few. We were shown some microbiological and physiological experiments too. The display of human organ specimens focused on health issues such as substance- abuse, lifestyle disorders, cancer etc. We went to various labs too and learnt about various techniques to diagnose abnormalities in the human body. We visited the forensic department where they explained the effects of certain plant specimens on humans and also showed us how they prepare various culture media.

It was an enriching and engaging experience for all. It gave us a graphic perspective of Biology that we are taught at School. We look forward to more such visits.
