Visit to Gandhi Smriti for class 1.

Learning at our School is not restricted to the four walls of classrooms, but goes beyond to include excursions, to give a feel for what they learn, ' for real'.

In this context, a visit to Gandhi Smriti was organised for the students of class 1 on 4th October 2016, close to Gandhi Jayanti. The story of Bapu and how he led India to independence was told to the children before the excursion so that they could relate to what they saw.

On arriving at Gandhi Smriti, the children alighted at the main building where a life size charkha welcomed visitors against a large spread of green cover. The children were ushered inside and walked through the rooms where they were excited to spot some of the Mahatma's possessions on display, such as his walking stick, spectacles, a personal spinning wheel and his chappals.

There were also tableaux providing extensive visuals of the course of independence and the sacrifices of our great heroes of the time. The accompanying teachers explained the relevance of these displays with the animated children as they walked past.

A short film on Bapu was shown in the in-house theatre, depicting Bapu's austere and humble way of life.

The children returned in new curiosity, emanating from what they had seen and heard. Some of their questions revealed thought and new linkages and we were happy the excursion had facilitated their nimble minds to travel.
