Visit to ICAR for classes 9, 10 and 11

On the 15 July 2024, 28 students from classes IX, X, and XI accompanied by their teacher Ms Suman Aswal, visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to celebrate its 96th Foundation Day. The purpose of the trip was to educate the students about the advancements in agriculture in India. The event was attended by over 12 schools of Delhi. The students arrived at the venue at 10:15 am, joining 6 other schools that were already present.

Commencing the event, Mr Himanshu Pathak, Director General, spoke about ICAR's contributions to food security and the enhancement of quality. He encouraged students to explore the over 100 courses offered by ICAR in various fields of agriculture such as genetics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and microbiology. This was followed by an engaging question-answer session, where students posed their queries about genetically modified organisms, farmer poverty and food grain exports. The students then visited an impressive exhibition showcasing advances in agriculture, including bamboo aquariums, over 100 varieties of mangoes, bio-products such as honey and RESMI, a composite feed additive for reducing enteric methane emissions, horticulture products, milk adulteration kits, new breeds of animals, and products made from jute and millet.

The visit concluded with a tour of the National Agricultural Science Museum, where several exhibits illustrated the history and evolution of agriculture over the decades.

The trip proved to be both informative and inspiring for the students.
