Visit to National Science Centre, Class 1

The students of class I went for an excursion to the National Science Centre on 29 August, 2013. Without doubt, Science is so much easier understood when attempted as a practical. The children were briefed in class about what they could expect to see at the Centre. But nothing could prepare them adequately for what awaited them!

As we entered, the children were enthralled to see a seemingly magical tap from which water fell into a bucket below..nobody could spot how the water reached the tap in the first place! Several of our curious 5 year olds animatedly discussed possibilities amongst themselves!

We then visited the Dino Gallery which displayed species of robotic dinosaurs. The children appeared quite in awe as they spotted the life- sized dinos. Some of the brave hearts wanted to pet the dinos they recognised! In delight a few shouted out the scientific names of the species they knew.

Then we moved on from prehistoric to the present at the Fun Science Centre. The games here were hands-on and inviting. Actually an entire scientific learning experience by itself. The magnetic field, transfer of momentum, seeing is believing and of course magic mirrors where children enjoyed seeing their altering reflections were some of the numerous concept-based games. The children also enjoyed playing upon the piano without strings as also seeing their own colourful shadows in a scanning machine. They also played the magic of magnets.

After a fun-filled learning experience we guided our children to the latest addition to the centre, which is a section with displays name 'nomadic to civilized society'. It included modern elements of our cityscape like the metro.

Soon it was time to return to School and reluctantly the children boarded the buses. But back in the classrooms, each child recreated his/ her favourite visual of the morning. To carefully preserve the exciting experience.

I see I remember,

I do I understand
