Visit to the Air Force Museum, class 4.
On July 21st 2016, students of class 4 went on an excursion to the Indian Air Force Museum located within the Palam Air Force Station.
The Air Force Museum, one of its kind in India, houses a rich collection of memorabilia and an extensive display of its history.
The Museum entrance features an indoor display gallery that contains historic photographs, uniforms and personal weapons of the Indian Air Force from its inception in 1932. The gallery leads to a hangar exhibiting small aircraft and air force inventory such as anti-aircraft guns, vehicles and ordnance. Larger aircraft were exhibited outside the hangar. The outdoor gallery contained war trophies, radar equipment and captured enemy vehicles.

The museum has an annexe which is divided into sections and boasts of some magnificent portraits. The first section contains a photographic history of the air force while the second section contains photographs of decorated Indian officers from World War II. The children walked past specimens of small arms like revolvers and pistols too, which were seized from Pakistan during operations in 1966 and 1971.
The excursion was a novel learning experience for our children, as they were introduced to airplanes and armoury connected with the rich history of the Indian Air force. The children were very excited to see fighter planes for the first time. In fact some of them very so motivated by what they saw that they promptly declared that they desire to become fighter pilots!
