VISIT TO THE NATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE
The Pre-Primary and Pre-School sections visited the National Science Centre on 8and 14August 2012 respectively. We left School at 9:15 am and reached at 9:45 am. It was a sultry and still Monsoon morning but the he children were excited and did not seemed to mind the heat.
At the Centre, we were welcomed by a stringless Piano which the children were curious to explore. Different musical instruments from early times and in use even now were also on display them which are used to the present day. With the help of us teachers, the children were introduced to the diverse sounds of pipes, Equalizers, the Organ and Xylophone. They listened to attention as they were told ho different sounds were created by different sizes and shapes of pipes and pendulums. The variance in sounds fromwind andstring instruments seemed to awe them. Ajourney from Pre-historic timesupto the present folowed.Thescience games' section showcased thrilling scientific games and each game quietly conveyed a principle of science logic as it was played. Concepts which seemed, at face, a little overwhelming for these young children like the magnetic field, the liquid puzzle, and the transfer of momentum, dancing rings opened up comfortably as they were they were corelated to everyday life. They saw exhibits of the 5 sense organs and several children promptly offered to tell the rest what ,they already knew about them!
We then moved down to the Dino gallery which had a variety of species of moving dinosaur robots. Sound and light effects enhanced the ambience and though ome children found the setting slightly ominous, most others thrilled in the adventure of meeting a life size dinosaur!
The Mirror image section came next nd the children were delighted as their own faces took on distortions in the different mirrors. They found it comic and doubled up as they tried each mirror with their companions for company!
At the end we moved to the latest addition at the Centre which included exhibits about current trends and lifestyles. TheDelhi Metro train, modern machines used, models of the Qutub Minar, Taj Mahal, etc.were ondisplay.
Soon it wastime for us to return and we retraced our steps to our waiting buses. As a recap the children enjoyed colouring their Dinosaur worksheets in the class room.
Some interesting feedback from our little explorers was as below:
- Aayan said Dinosaurs look like giant lizards. He wasnt wrong! Even Darwin said the same!
- Shaurya felt the Dinosaurs were just like in the movie Jurassic Park, though a little less fierce.
- Yuvraj quipped the Dinosaur was quitehis favourite cartoon Dino, on Dino World.
- Shagun felt that the Taj Mahal was a templeindeed it is a temple of love!
