Visit to the Qutub Minar, class 4
On 14th March 2016, the students of class IV went on an excursion to the Qutub Minar. They were accompanied by five teachers. Three buses were hired and the journey commenced from School at 8:15 am. We reached the venue by 8:40 am.
The students were amazed to see the captivating monument standing high amidst lush green gardens. Qutub Minar, the highest stone tower in India, stands at a height of 72.5 metres and was envisioned by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak as a tower of victory. Qutub-ud-Din completed the first storey while the rest were completed by his successor, Iltutmish.
Besides the striking monument, the mosque, the tomb of Iltutmish and the Iron Pillar, were other fascinating attractions in the Qutub Complex. The Iron Pillar is a 7m column which stands within the courtyard of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. It is known for the rust- resistant compositions used in its construction. The mosque was also built by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak in 1192.

As we walked around, our guides pointed out several interesting features which the children readily absorbed. The students were also given an insight into the history and the monuments architectural details through a short documentary screened at the complex.
The students were captivated by the magnificence of the monuments they saw. They thoroughly enjoyed walking through the complex and were exposed to yet another era of Indian history through the excursion. The group returned to School by 11:40 am.
