Visit to the School Eco Park, class 11

On 9th December 2016, a visit was to the School Eco Park was organised for a group of students of class IX. We were accompanied by our teachers and enjoyed spending the morning amid the lush foliage and bracing winter air.

On reaching the Park, we had a leisurely walk around. It was filled with trees, shrubs, herbs, creepers, and climbers. Adding to the beauty were some farm animals. In the pond were ducks and turtles. Besides these, were the roosters and rabbits.

The Science section was an added attraction. It had life size interactive models. One demonstrated the different types of mirrors - concave, convex and plane. We enjoyed trying out varied reflections of ourselves and linking them with the qualities of the different mirror types! We were very amused to see distorted images of ourselves!

There was also a lever and pulley system, a model of balls to demonstrate the law of conservation of energy and also the structure of sodium chloride.

We were also shown some vermicomposting pits. Our teacher told us that the biodegradable waste generated at the farm was filled in the pit along with earth worms and converted into organic manure for use at the farm itself.

We saw how seasonal vegetables are sown and picked. There was radish, eggplant, potato, sweet potato and others and we thoroughly enjoyed picking the ready specimens, under the guidance of the caretaker. It was a delight to see so many diverse vegetables growing. An added thrill was carrying home a bunch of the fresh harvest!

The experience was fun even as we learnt. Being away from ' the madding crowds' of the city and in a rural setting, with just the sound of the rustling breeze and our own voices was a special treat. It cannot be more true that One touch of nature makes the whole world kin', as told by William Shakespeare.
