Workshop for Accountancy teachers
On 6 May 2023, noted authors Messrs G.S. Grewal and R.K. Khosla conducted a workshop for teachers of accountancy, at the India Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodhi Road. The workshop aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the basic accounting principles and accounting standards.
The workshop was attended by over 100 teachers from various schools across Delhi-NCR. The diversity of participants made the workshop more interactive, as the authors addressed their specific concerns and queries.
The workshop commenced with a brief introduction by the organisers, followed by a session on accounting fundamentals. The authors discussed various topics and accounting project work with the participants.
The authors then acquainted the teachers with changes in the CBSE syllabus for the academic session 2023-24.
The teachers were informed about the inclusion of the following topics in Class XI syllabus-
#Accounting Standards
# Indian Accounting Standards (IND-AS)
# Meaning, reasons and limitations of incomplete records
Ascertainment of profit or loss by the statement of affairs
In the syllabus for class XII,
# preparation of comparative statements and common size statements has been included
# raising and writing off goodwill has been deleted. The project work has been amended. Now a student will prepare only one specific project using any two analytical tools.
In the second half of the workshop, the authors conducted a practical session, where they explained how financial statements are best prepared and analysed. They used real-life examples and case studies to help participants understand the practical application of accounting concepts.
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, where participants asked questions to put their doubts and queries to rest. The authors provided valuable insights and solutions to the queries, making the workshop beneficial for those who attended it.
The authors' expertise, coupled with their interactive teaching style, made the workshop engaging and informative. The event was well-organised and managed, and the attendees returned better informed.
