Workshop on Cartooning, classes 5 and 6
Students of class V and VI attended a workshop on cartoon-drawing at School on 10th October, 2014.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Ajit Narayan, a freelance cartoonist, who demonstrated simple and exciting ways of drawing cartoons. He started the workshop by asking the simple question, What is a cartoon? He received several interesting responses from the children promptly! He then explained that a cartoon is a drawing which elicits laughter. It is funny, animated and interesting. According to him, imagination is necessary to become a good cartoonist.
Mr. Narayan involved the students in a dialogue, making the session interactive, capturing their interest. He continued drawing geometrical shapes, with the purpose of providing the students with a 'base', whereon they could free up their imaginations to convert the shapes into interesting pictures, a figure of a human, an animal or any other figure that they could think of!
The speaker demonstrated how a few strokes in an ordinary circle could transform the circle into faces with manifold that reflect emotions.
The session was interactive and the response from the students was delightful. They learnt about drawing cartoons in an extremely enthusiastic manner. They listened, drew faces and asked several questions.
In the end Mr. Narayan showed the children the various books written by him. The students displayed great interest in the books including eagerness to procure the books and thereby master the art of cartooning!
