Workshop on Teaching Methodologies in Math in primary and pre-primary.

The pre-primary and primary teachers of had the opportunity to attend a workshop on Teaching Methodologies in Math held on 13th October, 2015 at The Heritage School, Gurgaon. Smriti Jain, co-founder of I am a teacher shared her experiences as a teacher and suggested ways to design interactive classrooms where there is no room for fear and one where the children learn from their own experiences. She spoke about a practice-based model for teacher education which can transform the teaching learning experience.

The activities included closing the eyes and reminiscing about a teacher who has touched our lives and thereafter discussing why it was. A high-definition audio-video about of a typical classroom in India was presented where the children are not allowed to interact, there is fear of the rod and rote-learning. All those present were sensitised about the present education setup and ways to deal with it differently.

The workshop was subsequently presided over by Jodo Gyan that aims to bring about changes in the quality of education in the classroom setup. They shared pedagogic insights about teaching math at the preprimary and primary levels. Numerous activities were carried out by the resource team using jodogyan materials like Aakar Parivar, Rangometry, Blocks, Dices, Beads, Ganit Rack, etc.

The workshop was not only educative but it also led us to introspect how we could look at methods to revamp our teaching styles best suited to the changing times.
