The Pre primary students observed World Lion Day in great enthusiasm, creating awareness about the importance of protecting the lion and preserving wildlife in general.
The session began with an engaging conversation where children enthusiastically shared their personal experiences of seeing lions and visiting wildlife parks. Some children spoke about seeing lions at the zoo, while others shared their experiences of visiting Jim Corbett Safari, including spotting paw impressions. The children also spoke about their visits to Sariska, sharing interesting experiences from their safaris. One child excitedly shared that she had seen a lioness during her visit!
The discussion was extended through simple thought-provoking questions such as, “Where do lions like to live—in a zoo or in the jungle?” and “What will happen if we keep cutting down our forests?” This helped the children to understand the importance of natural habitats and wildlife conservation. A short video showing wild animals venturing into nearby villages was also shown, followed by a discussion on threats to animal habitat.
The activities then moved to a creative, hands'-on activity. The children crafted lion faces with the mane using fallen leaves and twigs. They were delighted to discover a novel way of using natural materials creatively.
To add an element of fun and excitement, the children also participated in a “Loudest Roar” competition, enthusiastically mimicking a lion’s roar! Some children also related the theme to their favourite movie, The Lion King, making the discussion even more relatable and enjoyable.
The celebration was a joyful blend of experiential learning, environmental awareness, creativity, communication, and fun, leaving our young learners with the meaningful message: “Roar to Protect Them."
