Year-end Pre-school picnic at Lodi Gardens.

We decided to welcome the Spring with a large class-picnic at Lodhi Gardens. As we know, this is a landmark-park generously spread over 90 acres and dotted by the tombs of Mohammed Shah, Sikander Lodi and other sultans of Delhi, named the Sheesh Gumbad and the Bara Gumbad, etc. The flora and fauna here, too are fulsome. Expectedly, the children were very excited about the excursion!

On 12 February, 2015, we set off from School at 8.30 am for our destination. Upon reaching the park we carefully alighted and entered. The cool breeze was bracing and the bursting fresh foliage awaited us. The children were rearing to run about freely, but we collected them in groups and formed a train.

The teachers pointed out the flower and fruit trees as we walked. The fresh fragrances from the fauna wafted our way through the trail and we enjoyed identifying them.

There were ducks noisily nestling in the pond even as the breeze crimped the water. Birds especially parrots played in the trees.

Finally we found a sunny spot and decided to settle down for games. We played Hop-Scotch and the Queen of Sheba. Some of the children played independently. The general instinct was carefree.

Soon a packed snack and a fresh fruit was handed around to every child and the children ate hungrily.

We happily noted that this excursion seemed to achieve it s objective of teaching the children to explore and indulge as a group. This hugely helps social development especially amongst the introverted children. A love and respect for nature also takes root.

On the way back, the bonhomie on the bus was infectious. Each one was trying to get heard on what he/ she liked the most in the park! A repeat excursion was the unanimous appeal!
