'Young @ 70'- Human Rights in everyday life.

4 students from classes 10 and 11participated in a thought- provoking competition, Young @ 70 held by the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan along with the National Progressive Schools' Conference at Springdales School, Pusa Road on 10 December, 2014. This competition is conducted every year to celebrate Human Rights' Day which is observed on 10 December each year. The theme for this year was Human Rights 365, which aims to promote human rights in everyday life, so that each day is celebrated as a Human Rights Day! The chief guest for the competition was Magsaysay awardee, Dr Kiran Bedi and Mr. Parnab Mukherjee, Director Alternative Arts. This competition was unique.

It consisted of 3 parts -The Jingle Competition, Enactment and Group Discussion

In the Jingle competition students from competing schools had to collectively work on the topic Human Rights and design a public service campaign within a stipulated time period.

The Enactment competition required 2 students of the same school to conduct an enactment for 2 minutes on any selected piece of prose or poetry on human rights.

The Group Discussion engaged students of various schools in a holistic interaction on the following themes -

The Future of Child Rights; Conflict and Denial of Human Rights and Gender and Transgender Equality.

After the events were done, there were speeches by Dr. Kiran Bedi and Ms. Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Director, NPSC and Principal, Springdales School. After the speeches there was the launch of the official calendar of the UNIC. There was also a short one-man act by Mr. Pornab Mukherjee on Human Rights. Mr. Mukherjee blew us all away with his brilliant acting!The event ended with the prize distribution where Snigdha Verma of class XI won the first prize in the Jingle Competition. Himanshi Saini and Ritwik Arora of Class X-A won the third prize in the Enactment Competition which had 50 schools.

The event was an enriching earning experience for all.
