Young @70 Model Teacher Forum ( Towards organising MUN)

In this 21st century world, abuzz with socio-political imperatives, MUN prepares young diplomats of today who are the stakeholders of tomorrow to be informed and sensitised global citizens. With an increased awareness of the need for greater sensitisation, the concerns and needing debate at UN conferences have also increased substantially. While some conferences set benchmarks with innovative approaches to debate, substance of depth or efficient logistics, some lag behind, unable to achieve the desired result, leading to a vast inconsistency in the quality of the conferences across the nations.

Keeping in mind the present scenario, the United Nations' Information Centre For India and Bhutan, as a part of the 70th anniversary of the UNO, organised a discussion forum on 21 and 22 January, 2015 for organisers of the MUN in Delhi and NCR, to share their insights in strengthening the proceedings at various MUN conferences. The number of issues involving the conferences were discussed, for example, the selection of the executive board, unconventional committees, rules of proceedings and so on .

The output of this discussion-forum has equipped us well for the second edition of the Indianite MUN this year. As Kiran Mehra Kerpelman, Director UNIC says, MUN should move from confrontation to consensus, from dictatorship to diplomacy.

Undoubtedly, the Indianite MUN would be an invaluable learning opportunity for our students. They will learn to speak their minds seated on a vast andstretched horizon, as it were.
