Citizenship Programme initiates an art workshop for Nature Conservation at nearby MCD school

The art workshop conducted by Aryahi Das, Gautam, Geetika Gupta of class VIII, along with their teacher Ms Sandhya Batheja, at the MCD Primary School in Sadiq Nagar on 21 February 2024, was truly commendable. The initiative to raise awareness about nature conservation among students  of classes IV and V, through art, was an initiative of the Citizenship Programme and was both innovative and impactful.

The choice of theme, 'Prakriti Sanrakshan,' underscored the importance of conserving nature, and a pre-workshop talk by our students effectively set the context for the artistic activities that followed. Engaging the students in collecting leaves from the school playground not only connected them directly with nature but also fostered a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the environment.

The creativity displayed by students in using leaves to create artwork inspired by living objects was remarkable. From butterflies to fish to Lord Ganesha, the range of creations not only showcased artistic talent but also highlighted the cultural significance of nature in Indian traditions.

More importantly, the workshop successfully achieved its objective by fostering creativity and instilling a sense of environmental responsibility among the participating students. The active involvement and enthusiasm shown by both the visiting students and the primary school students highlighted the effectiveness of such initiatives in promoting awareness and positive action towards conservation.

It was heartening to see collaboration between the students of two different schools, and the exchange of knowledge and skills for a common cause. The gratitude extended to the students and staff of MCD Primary School, Sadiq Nagar, reflected the spirit of cooperation and mutual appreciation that characterised the workshop.

The initiative stands as a shining example of how art can be a powerful tool for education and advocacy, particularly in the realm of environmental conservation.
