Dear Parents,
Despite the severe odds of pandemic related compulsions, our children and their teachers have ridden the challenges and turned them into opportunities for new learnings and accomplishments. The spirit is strong and we must teach ourselves to stay that way so that we are always in readiness of whatever confronts us.
We had a packed February to August 2021 session. There were myriad events and activities unfolding everyday on the School calendar. The major events at School and the achievements of our students during this period were the following.
Literary Week
The Indian School observed its virtual Literary Week with much aplomb in its various genres from 26 to 30 April 2021.
School welcomed several acclaimed writers and speakers like Ms Samina Mishra, Ms Indrani Mukherjee, Ms Jugeeta Pegu, Mr Bhaskar Mazumdar and Ms Jayshree Mehta, whose presence ignited the students latent creativity.
Environment Week
School observed Environment Week from 5-9 July 2021. The purpose of the five day long celebration was to develop new awareness and a consciousness of the environment among the children. At each level, a wide range of fun and interactive educational activities were planned to bring environmental issues to the forefront and to sensitise the students.
Kargil Diwas
The Indian School observed the Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July with a series of activities aimed at remembering the glorious deeds of the martyrs of the Indian army, who selflessly laid down their lives to safeguard Indias borders.
Malhaar
The Indian School hosted Malhaar, its biennial music, dance, art and drama competition with zeal and zest, over the virtual platform on 30 July 2021. The event attracted 78 entries across all categories from over 26 schools across India. Judges 0q0Dr Pankaj Riyaaz, classical singer and sitarist, Mr VK Sharma, well-known theatre personality, vocalist Ms Aparajita Chandola, and Mr Rajan Shripad Fulari, noted art curator, lent their gracious presence at the virtual event.
Annual Exhibition
The Indian School held the second edition of its virtual Annual Exhibition on 14 August 2021. The opening ceremony of the Annual Exhibition was graced by three eminent personalities. Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations CBSE was our chief guest on the occasion. Dr Monit Kapoor, Mentor of Change, Atal Innovation Mission and head of the Department of Cybernetics at UPES, and Mr Harsha Kikkeri, CEO Holosuit Pvt. Ltd. were our special guests.
20th Dr Amidas Goradia National Inter school Debate in English and Hindi
The 20th Dr Amidas Goradia National Inter-School Debate in English was hosted by The Indian School on 19 and 20 August 2021. Having grown over the years, the debate saw an overwhelming presence of 31 premier school teams from cities across the country. The Hindi inter-school debate was held on 21 August 2021. The events helped children broaden their horizons as they began exploring wider knowledge and arriving at conclusions independently.
Online Sessions and Webinars for students
- -An online webinar, Cancer Prevention and Clean Yamuna was organised by the Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre for the students of classes 9-12 of The Indian School under the aegis of the Citizenship Programme, on 1 February 2021. The session was conducted by Dr Suversha Khanna, Founder cum President of the Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre along with Dr. Pragya Singh, Senior Project Manager.
- -The Indian School in association with PRATHAM, conducted webinars from 27 April to 30 April 2021 on topics such as- Vedic Maths, Scholarships in India and Abroad, Stream Selection, Career Option for Science Stream after class XII.
- -An online workshop on Demystifying Autism Spectrum Disorder was conducted by The Institute of Mental Health and Life Skills Promotion, Moolchand Medcity from 20-22 May 2021. The resource person was Ms Aprajita Dixit, child and adolescent psychologist.
- -A storytelling session was organised on Skype on 8 July 2021 for the students of class 1A. Ms. Louise Roberts, teacher at the Ecole New Era School in Manitoba, Canada, enthralled the young audience with her storytelling skills.
- -Ms Alena Maskaeva, Russian educator from Lyceum, Russia, engaged in a virtual interaction with the students of II-D on 9 July, 2021. The exchange saw both sides discuss ways of how to save Planet Earth.
- -On 9 July 2021, the students of class I-A engaged in a Skype session with their counterparts at The Rare Talent School, in Nigeria. The young participants from Nigeria were accompanied by their teacher Mr Amalike James. The exchange resulted in an exposure to unfamiliar cultures, as each side shared details of their cultures and way of life.
- -The students of classes III-A and IV-A engaged in an online interaction with Ms Catrina McDonald, a Scottish educator, on 12 July 2021. The session provided an international experience and global exposure to the children.
- -On 16 July 2021, Pre-primary students engaged on Skype with Ms Duyen Nur Kieu, teacher in Vietnam and her students. The young students were excited at the opportunity to meet their counterparts in Vietnam.
- -The young students of classes II-B and II-E participated in a virtual storytelling session hosted by an educator in Vietnam, Ms Sofia, on 30 July 2021. The students were reassured by the presence of their class teachers, Ms Priya Sharma and Ms Rakhi Singh, through the enthralling session. Overall, this session helped the young impressionable souls understand the significance of friendship.
- -The students of class I engaged in a storytelling session with Ms Nadezhda Ivanova, an educator from Russia, on 9 August 2021. The virtual interaction helped children sharpen their digital skills and build on their confidence levels.
- -The students of classes I-B and I-E met Ms Sailakshmi Raghuram from Chennai for an exciting round of virtual storytelling on 10 August 2021. The session helped them understand the importance of being happy and also keeping ones environment clean.
- -On 11 August 2021, the Psychology students of class XII-B had an interactive activity with Ms Sukhmeen Kaur Cheema, Acting Principal, The Foundation School. Students portrayed psychologists such as Sigmund Freud, Alfred Binet, Charles Spearman and Karen Horney. They recited poetry, shared videos, and spoke Russian and French to make the activity unique and lively.
Achievements of our students
- *In the Roller-Skating Federation of India, Delhi State 2020-21, held at the G.R. International School, Bawana, from 6 -10 February 2021, Sam Singh Maini of XI-C won the Gold in the 10 kms Track Point to Point Race, the Silver in the 1000 mts Track Race, the Bronze in the 10 kms Road Elimination Race and the Fourth Position in the 10 kms Elimination Race (Under 17 years). He is selected for the RSFI Nationals to be held in Chandigarh later this year.
- *At the IIT Bombay E Summit21 held online on 6 February 2021, Ekveer Sahoo and Hardik Narang of class IX bagged the Second Position for the app they designed in the I-Hack Open Coding Challenge.
- *In the DPS-Fiesta Spinning Challenges organised by DPS Vasant Vihar on 16th February 2021, Samarth Sovani of class 3C bagged the Second Position in Swaranjali (Indian music category).
- *At Math Around Me, an event organised by Nehru World School in collaboration with Cambridge University Press on 5 March 2021, Kirtida Aggarwal of class IX B was awarded the Fourth Position from amongst 559 entries from India and overseas.
- *At the Delhi Olympic Kurash Competition organised by the Delhi Olympic Association and the Kurash Association, held on 5 April 2021, from amongst four hundred judokas who participated, our Priyanshi Sharma of class VII secured the First Position in the 40 kg weight category, (sub-junior girls).
- *At the virtual coding competition, HPE Code Wars, held by Codingal, of 2525 students who participated in the mega event, our Ekveer Sahoo of class X bagged the Second Position on 10 April 2021. He displayed his deft computing skills by solving coding problems on C, C++, Python and JavaScript.
- *At an online inter school literary event titled, Thought Huddle hosted by Sunbeam School Varuna, Varanasi, on 16-17 April 2021, our Manan Kakkar of class X was adjudged the Best Speaker in the semi-final round of the debate. Jiya Jawa, Vanshika Kanaujia (XII-D), Sharanya Mushran (XII-A) and Akshat(XII-B) bagged the first position in the Radio Play event. Our School also secured the overall Joint Second Runners Up position.
- *At an online inter school event titled, Daffodils, hosted by GD Goenka Public School, Greater Noida, on April 19, 2021 , our Suhani Sehgal of Pre school Kokab won the Third Position in Spill the Words and Kiansha Paul of Pre school Kokab won the Third Position in Creative Hands.
- *On 8 May 2021, at the BITS Pilani Inter school event named Kids Appfest 2021, our Ekveer Sahoo and Hardik Narang of class X won the First Prize for their School. They created a multi purpose app which used an accelerometer to detect posture.
- *The Indian School and Hindustan Times jointly held a workshop on Design thinking for classes X to XII on 10 and 11 May 2021. The students participated in a challenge based upon the Sustainable Development Goals and the theme Foodball. The team of Ekveer, Hardik, and Manan won the challenge bagging the First Position.
- *At the Fourth Edition of the Jim Corbett-Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Memorial Annual Young Ideators Conclave-2021 held online on 26-27 May 2021, by Birla Vidya Mandir, Nainital, Shruti Arora and Sharanya Mushraan of class 12 took the First Prize at Art Installation. Shruti Arora also secured the Third Position for Creative Writing. In the Multi Format Debate, Manan Kakkar of class 10 was adjudged Best Speaker in the semi-final round and Gunveer Singh was named Best Interjector. Our team took the Third Prize at the debate.
- *A team of talented students of The Indian School took part in an online Hindi and Sanskrit inter-school competition organised by Gyan Bharti School in April 2021. However, due to the pandemic- prompted lockdown, the results were declared only on 3 July 2021 in a virtual prize-giving ceremony. Niyati Khurana of class IX did our School proud by securing the First Position in the Hindi Speech competition. Her speech entry on the topic of Buzurg Hamari Dharohar received much applause.
- *To test and hone their mathematical skills, 15 students of The Indian School participated in the inter-school mathematics talent test Mathability held on 26 June 2021. The results were declared on 5 July 2021. Aditya Kandpal of class IX A secured the Second Position by scoring 97.5 out of 100, while Suryaanshu Gupta of class IX D came in Third Position by scoring 95 out of 100.
- *At ASPIRATIONS, a middle school inter- school literary challenge hosted by Sunbeam School, Annapurna on 17 July 2021, Gunika Meena of class VIII A was awarded the Critics Choice Award for Creative Writing (Prose) and the School team comprising Shiksha Dwivedi (VII E) and Oishee Halder (VII D) were named First Runners Up for their Visual Art Installation.
- *At Digex, an inter school Photography and Film making competition hosted by Delhi Public School R.K. Puram, on 18 July 2021, our Ekveer Sahoo and Hardik Narang of class X were awarded the First Prize in a surprise event where they were handed the theme, Light Bending.
- *At Bizeco, an inter school commerce event hosted by DPS R K Puram on 24/25 July 2021, Surveen Kaur of class 12C was awarded the Third Position in the surprise event Brainfi.
- *At Lingua Fiesta 2021, an inter school competition held at Bluebells School International on 26 July, Mahak Mahto of 6E won the First Prize for her Dramatic Poetry Recitation.
- *In the Melio-Public Speaking Challenge, held on 28 July 2021, Amaira of class 3A was awarded the First Position in the class 3-4 category, competing with participants from 12 schools.
- *At Ordin@Trix 21.0 an inter school competition organised by Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar on 28 July 2021, The Indian School was named Overall Winner. Avika Bansal of Class 3 was First Runner up for Mobile Photography on (Whats on My Plate), Arnav Gupta of class 5 secured the First Position on topic Silver Lining , Rishima and Aarav Bansal of class 7 secured the First Position for App Development on Healthcare. Arunabh and Lavanya Malhotra of class 7 secured the First Position in One Shot Commercial (Movie Making).
- *At Vibrations 2021, an inter-school competition organised by Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar from 24 July-3 August 2021, The Indian School won the First Prize in two categories: Aaishi Sengupta, Samarth Sovani, Devika Kapur and Gunseerat Kaur from class IV won the First Prize for Incredible India- a digital newspaper celebrating 75 years of Indias independence. Arnav Gupta from class V, won the First Prize for Fictitious Delineation- a Zen-doodle art on monuments of India.
- *At Rap Battle an inter school competition organised by K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K. II on 31 July 2021, Shaurya Fulfagar and Aarohan Chakravarty of class 7 secured the Third Position for their live rendition of a self-composed rap song on the theme of online classes.
- *At SPARK 2021, an inter-school competition held online on 12-13 August 2021 by Indirapuram Public School, (Cambridge Wing) Ghaziabad, Ish Jadwani won the First Prize in category B (Science in Action) and Divjot Kaur of class II E won the Third Prize in category B (Venture Capital).
- *In the Melio inter school competitions held on 27 June and 18 August 2021, Seana Kundu of class 3 C was awarded the First Position for Public Speaking.
- *On 22 August 2021 at Resplendence 2021 organised by Vishwa Bharati Public School, Noida, Pranya Sadh of class X was awarded the Third Position for her poster in Photoshop in the event, E- Novators; Sejal Gupta of class X was awarded the Second Position for her speech on the topic Hunger to be better; our team consisting of Yatharth Bisht of class XI and Auro Sankalp, Madhav Bhalla, Nakul Chadda, Samarth Suri and Nikhil Jain of class XII secured the Second Position in the PC Gaming event.
- *At the BK Birla Creativity Conclave 2021, inter-school competition held on 23 August 2021, Anthariksh Nair X, Zavaibah Akhtar IX & Gautam Asija IX won the Best Audio Mix in the Radio Play Enactment on the topic Old Normal versus New Normal versus Neo Normal versus No Normal versus Semi Normal.
- *At iON 2021, an online competition conducted by Indraprastha International School between 24 and 26 August, in the E-poster designing category, Syed Eesa Alvi of class III was awarded the Second Position, Aaishi Sengupta of class IV secured the Third Position, Mahak Mohato of class VI was awarded the Third Position Omar Rizwan of class XI bagged the Third Prize in the category E-snapshot.
- *A team of talented students from The Indian School won the Overall Winner trophy at the Tech Fest Ordin @Trix 21.0 organised by Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, from 20 July to 28 July 2021.Arnav Gupta of class V stood first in class III-V category. In the category for classes VI-VIII, Lavanya Malhotra of class VII and Arunabh of class VII finished first. In the category for classes III V, Avika Bansal of class III bagged the First Runner Up position.
- *At Panorama-2021, an online inter school competition conducted by DPS, Kalyanpur, from 26-28 August, 2021, our School team was awarded the First, Second, and the First Runner-Up spots in the Overall category of science and technology, Kidcelence and Arts, respectively. Dakshita Chauhan of XII-D won the First Position in Colour Splash; Vanshika Chaudhary and Anushka Saxena of XII-A stood First at Speaking Mind; Ekveer Sahoo of X-D bagged the First Position at the Persone La Populaire. Raghvi Vashisth of Pre-primary won the First position at Desfile de Moda. Jagmeet Singh and Aditi Ranjan of XII-B and Mayra Oberoi of VIII-A secured the Second Position at Innovatech and 360 Degrees, respectively.
As is evident, it was an eventful and gratifying term. Our achievements are a testimony to the hard work, dedication and resilience of our students and teachers.
Dear Parents, you have played your part well by lending your support and encouragement. Thank you! I am glad that together, we have been able to successfully reassure our children, that every challenge carries with it resolution. And a positive outlook is the best way to find it.
