Artist in residence, 2 day art workshop for Environment Week
A 2 days workshop by Sandeep Jigdung at our School was extremely invigorating for the students and had a great impact on their works on the occasion of Environment Week as his pet theme is Nature. Sandeep is a talented upcoming artist, and an alumnus of Delhi College of Art who likes to paint the beautiful tropical landscapes of his native Assam. The initiative of having a workshop was not only to expose the children to techniques of painting but also to give them the novel experience of learning from a practising artist.
Day 1: On 23 July, 2014, a group of 20 students from classes 2 to 6 assembled for the workshop. The workshop started with a brief. Sandeep, then asked the students to make a quick layout on what they would like to paint. The topic was Nature. A layout was set up and Sandeep then gave a demonstration on how to play with watercolours. His nimble yet controlled applications motivated the children to want to learn the technique and over the next 3 hours they attempted what they saw and the effort produced quite a remarkable lot of work. They too drew from scenes of foliage for the occasion.
Day 2: On 24 July, 2014, students were mainly from classes 11 and 12. The expressions of anticipation of meeting the artist in person was ample on their faces! And they couldn't help welcoming him with warmth and their questions!

As on the previous day, thee students were asked to trace a layout on the theme of Nature, focusing on a particular element of it. The artist explained the brief using one of his own works. Quite a medley of pretty works made for the product of the effort.
It was a pleasure to work with The Indian School, the students were enthusiastic and interested and the teachers were highly cooperative", observed Sandeep, of the experience.
