Citizenship Programme Blanket Donation Drive
Sharing makes you more significant than you are. The more you give to others, the more life you can receive. - Jim Rohn
Sharing is synonymous with each one of us at The Indian School. It is an essential social skill to build healthy, strong relationships and contribute to the well-being and happiness of the community. It is rightly said, Giving is not just about donation. It is about making a difference.
What could be a better way to start the new year than the distribution of blankets to the needy and under privileged who have been forced to spend the chilly winter nights on the road and in makeshift shelters? With no money for warm clothing, some of them suffer severe illnesses and even die. The mere thought of their plight and pitiful condition brings shivers down the spine, as it were. The new year was the perfect time to spread happiness and warmth among them.

With this mission in mind, an initiative was undertaken by the staff and students of The Indian School, as a part of the Citizenship Programme, on 12 January 2023. Blankets were distributed to the needy along the roadside and near some prominent temples like the Sai Baba temple on Lodhi Road. Nearly 250 blankets were donated for this purpose and were packed into five cars. Five students of classes IX and XI (Rishit Pillai, Madhav Sharma, Saina Garg of class IX and Manya Arora and Shubhmit Sharma of class XI), accompanied by six teachers (Ms Sangeeta Aswani, Ms Sandhya Batheja, Ms Deepti Sawhney, Ms Shikha Sharma and Ms Sumedha Sikka visited various sites in the vicinity of our school like Chirag Delhi Flyover, Amar Colony Market, Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khas, Siri Fort, Yusuf Sarai, AIIMS, Green Park etc. and distributed blankets to the poor and the needy.
This was a small but very thoughtful gesture by the teachers, which made a huge difference to so many who have been bearing the extreme cold conditions. Their faces gleamed with hope in humanity and their eyes filled with tears of joy and gratitude.
Hoping that the initiative brought some relief to the homeless, the students and teachers returned to School filled with contentment and grace.
