Citizenship Programme initiative- teaching fitness at nearby MCD schools
On 8 April 2026, a fitness programme was conducted by the students of The Indian School at two nearby MCD Schools at Sadiq Nagar and Andrews Ganj. The iinitiative of the School Citizenship Programme, aimed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, leadership and community engagement among young learners. It also provided an opportunity for the student volunteers to develop a sense of responsibility, empathy and active citizenship by contributing meaningfully to the community.
The participating students included Shifa Abdul Nasser (IX A), Avika Kapoor (IX A), Arjun Tara (IX B), Shivansh Khare (IX C), Jishnu Chatterjee (IX A), Jaza Rizvi (IX A), Arya Gupta (IX B), and Sanchit Chawhan (VIII B), who worked collaboratively to plan and conduct the session effectively.
During the visit, the team interacted with Class 5 students. The session began with basic stretching and warm up exercises to prepare the students physically and mentally for the activities ahead. Emphasis was laid on correct posture, coordination and the importance of warming up to prevent injuries. The children followed the instructions attentively and participated with great enthusiasm. Fitness activities and fun games were organised to make the session engaging, enjoyable and educational.
Following the warm up, a game of dodgeball was held. This activity not only enhanced the students’ agility, reflexes and coordination but also encouraged teamwork, quick decision making and strategic thinking. The students displayed high energy levels and excitement while playing. They remained disciplined, listened carefully to instructions, and demonstrated excellent cooperation and sportsmanship throughout the activity. Although the volunteers were keen to conduct more games and extend the session, the rain limited further physical activities. However, the team ensured that the time available was utilised effectively, maintaining the enthusiasm and involvement of all participants.
Overall, the programme was highly successful and enriching for both the visiting students and the young participants. It fostered fitness awareness, discipline, teamwork and a strong sense of community. Such initiatives play a vital role in holistic development and help instil values of cooperation, leadership and social responsibility among students.
