Class 2 excursion to Waste to Wonder Park

A group of 180 students of class II of The Indian School embarked on an adventure trip to Waste to Wonder Park on the bright sunny morning of 31 January 2020.

The excited group was accompanied by their class teachers to the uniquely themed park located at Sarai Kale Khan. The park houses the Seven Wonders of the ancient, medieval and modern world. It not only serves as an ideal place for kids to run and play but also imparts knowledge about how creatively waste material can be reused.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has harnessed wind and solar energy to light up the park rendering a breathtaking sight at sunset and after dark. A few solar trees and numerous solar panels have been set up for this purpose.

The students were delighted to see replicas of the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the statue -Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, the Great Pyramid of Giza (Egypt) and The Colosseum in Rome. The children were told about each monument and the material used to erect the model of it. They were amazed to learn that 150 tonnes of waste material like scrap metal retrieved from Delhis landfills was used to recreate the monuments!

The students were curious and in awe of what they saw! They could scarcely believe that these fantastic models were the products of waste, so fine and delicately sculpted/ assembled were they! Some children expressed their desire of visiting the originals someday to compare!

The students enjoyed themselves thoroughly and learnt an important lesson on sustainability through a real life demo is reuse and recycle of waste material.
