Class 6 visits the National Museum

A museum is not just a home for artefacts — it is a living bridge where the whispers of history inspire the dreams of tomorrow

On September 26,2025, a group of a hundred students of class 6 of The Indian School, along with four teachers, visited the National Museum, one of the largest repositories of India’s cultural treasures. The excursion offered the students a rare opportunity to step beyond their textbooks and experience history face-to-face.

The visit began with the Harappan Gallery, where seals, pottery, and figurines showcased the brilliance of one of the world’s earliest civilisations. Moving further, the children were captivated by Buddhist art and relics, particularly the stupas and manuscripts that reflect India’s spiritual depth. The Mughal Gallery, with its intricate miniatures, royal costumes, and jewel ornaments, left the students spellbound. They also explored collections of arms and armour, coins, textiles, manuscripts, and tribal art, each narrating stories of courage, craftsmanship, and continuity.

The students were fascinated by the detailed explanations by the guides about the galleries, encouraging them to ask questions, reflect on historical contexts, and connect the artefacts with classroom learning. The museum’s vast and well-curated displays provided not just knowledge but also inspiration, helping students understand the importance of preserving heritage. A film about the Harappan civilisation transported the students.

The trip concluded with an interactive session where the students shared their observations and insights. Many expressed awe at India’s artistic and cultural legacy, while others appreciated how the museum preserves and presents the nation’s diverse identity.

Overall, the visit to the National Museum was far more than an academic excursion — it was a journey through centuries of civilisation, culture, and creativity. For the students, it ignited curiosity, broadened horizons, and instilled a sense of reverence for India’s priceless heritage. The timeless artefacts and narratives encountered within the galleries left an indelible impression, reminding everyone that history is not just about the past, but also a guiding light for the future. Truly, it was an experience that enriched minds, touched hearts, and deepened the pride of belonging to a nation with such a profound legacy.
