The Indian School organised an excursion to the Nehru Planetarium for the students of class VIII on 6 February 2020. 105 students, accompanied by their class teachers, visited the planetarium and Teen Murti Bhawan.
The students watched a movie on our galaxy The Milky Way. The sky theatre gave the viewers a real life experience of space travel and exploration. They were mesmerised upon glimpsing the planets, their moons, Zodiac signs and the constellations. They were also told about the various space explorers and manmade probes like Spirit, Opportunity, Appolo11 and Chandrayaan1.
The students were also told about the temperatures, atmosphere and composition of each planet along with the asteroid belt which separates the terrestrial and the jovian planets. They understood the difference between the various types of celestial bodies like comets, asteroids, stars, dwarf planets, satellites etc.
[gallery link="file" order="DESC"]After watching the interesting video the excited group proceeded to visit the Teen Murti Museum which was the residence of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The students were amazed to find a personal library with umpteen books inside the museum. They also got an opportunity to see letters written by stalwarts of the times like Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Madan Mohan Malviya, besides Chacha Nehru.
Viewing Pandit Nehrus study, the room where he held his meetings and the room in which he breathed his last aroused the students curiosity to find out more about the life of our first prime minister. The museum also displays a rare collection of photographs of the Nehru family and clippings of newspapers of the pre-independence era revealing major events of the freedom movement.
The experience left an impact on the students minds and greatly added to what they already knew.
