Dates with the Greats! Abraham Lincoln, a talk by Mr. Goradia for classes 11 and 12.
On 16 August, 2013, the students of classes XI and XII (Humanities) attended a talk by Mr. Goradia on the life and times of Abraham Lincoln.
The students were intrigued by Mr. Goradia's point of view on the issue. They asked a variety of questions- "Why did a peacekeeping commission affect Lincoln's stand against slavery during the civil war?", "How did Abe, despite of the fact that he wasn't that popular, get elected the first time round?". Several angles were discussed, from the relationship between the US and Europe at the time of civil war to Abe Lincoln's fashion- statement of long hats and well-groomed goatees!

Mr. Goradia talked about why Abraham Lincoln played a critical role in the history of mankind. The idea that humans are more than just a few more set of hands that can be made to work as your will demands was challenged by this man. Lincoln was not the one who eliminated differences between humans on the basis of their racial status or their familial deposition. But he certainly took a giant stride In the direction. In fact, if Barack Obama is President of the US today, it is in no less measure to the legendary Lincoln, asserted Mr. Goradia.
Mr. Goradia's unique perspective of World History and the like, has always fascinated the students. It was an interactive session that helped the students broaden their understanding of the 16th century and contemporary world politics. We hope to be a part of such sessions again.
