An explosion of flamboyance marked Malhaar, the annual music and dance festival at The Indian School held on 27 July, 2012 as 23 schools enlisted to contest. Profuse research and assimilation preceeded the spectacle as an unprecedented presentation of the many facets of Latin America was unfolded. 500 students from across the Delhi/ NCR enraptured the judges and the audience by their vigorous participation in the categories of group dance, vocal and instrumental melody, computer animation and art. The art competition was set by the theme, The Fleeting Art of Peru. It's carpets of flowers, motifs of saints, shields, maps, landscape, flora and fauna was a rage as participants resourced and reproduced. The dance entries were a rich medley of salsa, cha-cha, paso doble among others with carnival costumes and accoutrements, one more bewitching than the next! Vocal music entries came in Spanish, Portugese and Italian and the bands (instrumental entries)came as a pageant of percussion instruments like the djembe drum, huehuetl etc and contestants attempted timeless masterpieces from Carlos Santana and Gypsy King among others. The Indian School although adjudged Best Overall, being host-school preferred to handover the honour and the rolling trophy to First Runner-Up, Tagore International School, EOK. Second Runner-Up was Amity International School, Pushp Vihar. Chief Guest, HE Carlos Duarte, Ambassador of Brazil and Guests of Honour, Padmashree, Geeta Chandran and Ms. Renu Sharma, Deputy Director of Education, South District blessed the occasion.
