"Art Speaks where words are unable to explain."
The Fine Arts students of class 11 got an opportunity to visit the Bikaner House Art Exhibition, on Friday 10 February 2023. The majestic venue has been transformed into the capital's cultural hub led by of the country's top conservation architects, Ms Abha Narain Lambah.
The art fair presented 85 exhibitors, of which 71 were galleries and 14 were other institutions. There was an expanded floorspace to showcase South Asias talent ranging from contemporary art and the modern masters, as well as an extended studio to present the exhibition's digital artist in residence.
Visitors were spoiled for choice with the best known Indian contemporary galleries displaying exquisite art across the board. A series of women-led exhibitions were the most prominent feature. They included works by renowned names such as Arpita Singh and Nasreen Mohamedi, Chitra Ganesh, Sumakshi Singh and a group show of over 20 women artists from the Baroda Schoolalong with exciting showcases by Thukral & Tagra, Debasish Mukherjee and Karan Shrestha.
We spotted tiny wooden toys created by an artist named Princess Pea, an anonymous artist with an oversized pea-head! Princess Pea's creation revolves around women's rights, feminism, body positivity and issues of safe space. Their spherical pea-like heads were the only feature that all the toys had in common.
The most intriguing painting which we discovered was called 'Trespass'. It was created by eight anonymous Kerala-based painters. The artwork was not created in a conventional manner, rather, it appeared like one artist began by creating something on the canvas, another continued and so on. This picture was inspired by the various facets of life. Trespass also questions the foundational ideas of art.
Technology and art were combined together to create an unforgettable experience for everyone. A 3D representation of various paintings made the experience quite remarkable.
We moved upstairs to the exhibit's final section which featured artwork by young autistic artists. After appreciating their talent, we can confidently assert that 'Art has no bounds'. Each and every work of art produced with love and care shows the creator's character and outlook towards the world.
It was overall a phenomenal experience!
