INNONATION'24- an inter school innovation competition
On 23 October 2024, The Indian School hosted its annual inter-school science and innovation competition, InnoNation'24. This year’s competition saw enthusiastic participation from 12 prestigious schools across Delhi-NCR, each bringing their brightest talents to the forefront. The schools in attendance were Vasant Valley School, The Mother’s International School, DPS R.K. Puram, Tagore International School, East Of Kailash, Fr. Agnel School, , Sadhu Vaswani International School for Girls, , Lotus Valley International School, , Bluebells School International, ITL Public School and Army Public School, Shankar Vihar.
The School was honoured to welcome Dr Gautam Shroff as chief guest on the occasion. Dr Shroff, professor at IIIT Delhi, is a celebrated expert in Computer Science and Engineering. Before joining IIITD, Dr Shroff enjoyed a remarkable 26 year tenure at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he served as Senior Vice President and head of TCS Research. Known for transforming TCS’s innovation landscape, he established a global co-innovation network connecting startups, industry leaders, and academia. His illustrious leadership also brought forth TCS’s Architecture and Technology Consulting Practice, cementing his reputation as a visionary in the field.
The event began with a an invocation, the Saraswati Vandana sung by our School choir, setting a tone of reverence and anticipation for a day dedicated to learning and creativity.
In his keynote address, Dr Shroff inspired the audience with his reflections on the power of innovation to drive meaningful change in society. He said that while he had experience on his side, the new generation was already more advanced in many ways. He praised the students for their unwavering commitment to innovation, motivating them further with his inspiring words.
Following the address, Deepanshi Moitra of class XI presented an engaging video outlining the day’s events.
The competition featured a rich array of events designed to spark creativity and challenge critical thinking. Each event provided a platform for students to showcase their talents in unique ways. To ensure a fair and professional evaluation of the participants’ efforts, industry specialists along with alumni were invited as judges. This expert panel brought a wealth of real-world experience and academic insight to the judging process, offering valuable feedback and elevating the overall quality of the competition.
Innovation Odyssey, centred around the theme “Innovating for an Inclusive Future: Innovating Solutions to Break Barriers”. Participants were encouraged to devise impactful solutions promoting inclusivity and bridging gaps for under represented groups. Event heads Aarush Mahajan (Class XII) and Ashmin Malhotra (Class XI) ensured seamless organisation, while judges Mr Vineet Panwar and Ms Priyanka Singh offered insightful feedback to each
team. In a thrilling contest, The Indian School clinched the First Position, with Vasant Valley School and ITL Public School earning ththFirst and Second Rurunnser-Positions respectively.
The photography contest, Shutter Lab, saw participants capture moments across the School grounds, turning everyday scenes into extraordinary visuals based on selected prompts such as, time lapse, forces of nature, in focus, patterns in nature, and the colours of light. The participants later headed to the Physics lab to edit their photographs. After an analytical discussion with the participants, judges Ms Amrita Arun and Mrs Tribhuvan Tiwari provided valuable feedback. Delhi Public School R.K. Puram secured the First Position. The Indian School won the Runners-Up Position, and Sadhu Vaswani International School for Girls secured the Third Position.
Postulate Podium offered a dynamic platform for students to debate and discuss pressing topics including Nanotechnology – Revolutionising Industries and Society, The Metaverse – A New Reality or just a Fad, The Ethical Implications of AI in the Digital Era, and The Intersection of Art and Science. Led by event heads Tanisha Mehndiratta (Class XII) and Deepanshi Moitra (Class XI), participants articulated their perspectives through two challenging rounds. In the first, each participant delivered a speech on a unique topic, while the second round brought intense discussions around the topic, “Understanding the Nobel Prize Gap for Indians”. Judges Sejal Gupta and Akshita Panwar, both alumni of The Indian School, provided detailed feedback, ultimately awarding the First Position to Father Agnel School, followed by ITL Public School and Tagore International School, East of Kailash.
In Artist's Algorithm, students brought scientific concepts to life through artistic expression, creating posters on themes like AI in medicine, brain-computer interfaces, and the science of shadows. Managed adeptly by event heads, Mansha Dwivedi (Class XII) and Bhavya Gupta (Class XII), the event was judged by renowned artist Uma Shanker Pathak, who assessed entries for scientific accuracy, visual appeal, and presentation. Lotus Valley International School emerged the winner, with The Indian School and The Indian School- Second Shift securing Second and Third Positions respectively.
The Neuron Knockout quiz tested participants’ knowledge across diverse subjects. Event heads, Akshit Panwar (Class XII) and Krunal Patel (Class XII) conducted four stimulating rounds that required teamwork and quick thinking. The quiz was based on a mix of science fiction and general knowledge, with rounds including a pictorial round, an audio round, a general knowledge round, and a rapid-fire sci-fi movie round. These rounds challenged participants’ visual recognition, listening skills, and quick recall abilities, particularly in the realm of science fiction and popular culture. Mother’s International School took the top spot, followed closely by The Indian School and Tagore International School, East of Kailash.
In the Line Following Robot Race, teams programmed robots to navigate a complex, marked path filled with sharp turns and tricky surfaces, testing their precision and agility. Event heads, Madhav Sharma (Class XI) and Tushaar Narang (Class XII) managed the event seamlessly, as students showcased their prowess in robotics. Vasant Valley School emerged victorious, with Army Public School and Tagore International School, East of Kailash taking the second and third places.
Lyric Kinetics was a unique celebration of science through rap, blending lyrical creativity with scientific insight. Event heads, Anush Malik (Class XII) and Yuvraj Pathak (Class XII) managed the event, with Ms Aanchal Singh, a talented vocalist and composer, judging the participants for their lyrical content, delivery, stage presence, and originality. ITL Public School took the first prize, with The Indian School- Second Shift and Lotus Valley International School securing second and third positions.
InnoNation'24 was a resounding success, highlighting the ingenuity and innovation of students from across Delhi-NCR. Each event fostered collaboration, inspired critical thinking, and left participants and guests alike with a renewed sense of inspiration.
