Inter school Sanskrit creative writing competition

On 3 December 2019, The Indian School organised the very first edition of its inter-school Sanskrit creative writing competition. The event, a unique initiative, was hosted as an attempt to promote the mother of all Indian languages- Sanskrit. Students of various schools- Birla Vidya Niketan, DPS (Mathura Road), Tagore International School, Vasant Valley School, Bluebells School International, Gyan Bharati School, Sadhu Vaswani International School, Ryan International School, Air Force Bal Bharti School, The Foundation School and the host school participated in the competition.

The event commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony to invoke light, positivity and knowledge. This was followed by a melodious performance by the Junior School choir. The gathering was then addressed by Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, who welcomed the participants, guests, teachers and fellow students.

Ms. Joshi laid emphasis on the importance of Sanskrit and how the event was a humble initiative to preserve and promote the timeless language. School chairman, Mr. Prafull Goradia, was invited to address the gathering. He warmly greeted the assembly and shed light on the importance of Sanskrit and the need to preserve it. He described it as the shining crown of Indias heritage a bridge to our ancient culture. He added that it was a valuable asset which we must learn to cherish.

Due to mankinds obsession with science, Sanskrit has been neglected over the years, Mr. Goradia said adding that it is the responsibility of the present generation to act as torchbearers and carry the legacy of our past.

Guest of honour, Mr. Jagannath Iyer graced the gathering and spoke to emphasise the importance of Sanskrit especially in the coming years. There is a probability of Sanskrit becoming a necessity in many fields including computer programming, he said.

The rules and the criteria for judgment were explained to the participants. The competition had three categories, namely- essay writing for classes 9 to 10, story writing for students of class 8 and picture description for students of class 7. The prizes sponsored generously by The Prafull Foundation, were unveiled and thereafter the participants were escorted to their respective venues.

The students enthusiastically penned their thoughts on the topics provided. Their zealous approach and the host Schools determined efforts to promote Sanskrit were what made the event a huge success.
