Interaction with School chairman on Good Governance for Classes 9 and 11.
School chairman, Mr Prafull Goradia interacted with classes 9 and 11 ( Humanities) on the topic Good Governance on 13 October 2020 using the Google Meet platform. Mr Goradia explained the importance of good governance for a country like ours and the steps to achieve it.
Firstly, Sir spoke on the importance of the constitution in a country and its invaluable role in achieving good governance. He cited the examples of the constitutions of countries like Japan, India, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Sir also shared the success rates of these countries in the aspects of good governance.
Thereafter, Goradia Sir cited classic examples to showcase the difference between Good Governance and Bad Governance using historical events like the conquest of India by the British East India Company, the formation of Soviet Union and its fall within 70 years and the rise and fall of Napoleon.
Sir also talked about the political history of India and the electoral patterns which the Indian electorate has followed during the seven decades of our country as a nation. Sir defined the spirit of Good Governance as one where The head of a country works for the public and citizens of his nation and not for himself. Adding to that, he discussed our responsibilities as citizens and the challenges which our country faces in matters relating to governance.
During the session Sir described the best governance model as exhibited by Singapore. The city has achieved excellence governance and shown immense progress during the reign of Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew who increased the per capita income there from $1,000 to $30,000 during his tenure. Sir suggested that students should read Lee Kuan Yews biography to know more about his governance.
Lastly, chairman sir emphasized that the Indian electorate needs to become more conscious while voting for a candidate during the elections and not vote by taking into consideration caste, creed, ethnicity and background of a person. Citizens should pay more attention to what a particular person can do for the people.
The session ended with the students asking questions on the topic. The talk greatly familiarized the students to understand the need for good governance and the ways to achieve it.
