Festivals are characterised by colour, gaiety, enthusiasm, prayers and rituals. They are celebrated to show our happiness on special days of national or religious importance.
Janmashtami was celebrated with fervor to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. The celebration began with the children singing devotional songs- Chhoti chhoti gaiyan, chote chote gwal" and " Achhyutam Keshavam. The timeless tale of the birth of Krishna was narrated to the young students by Ms. Ifrah Khan, who used creative gestures and facial expressions using finger puppets.
On Wednesday, 25 August, 2021, the children learned to prepare delicious and nutritious coconut ladoos with simple ingredients like desiccated coconut, powdered sugar and milk. As a part of the School Sanskara Syllabus, the children were directed to share the ladoos with the others at home and thereafter eat themselves.
On Friday, 27 August, 2021 a special online assembly was held wherein the children came dressed in traditional attire. They looked very bright and colourful wearing their self-designed headgear, complete with a peacock feather!
The assembly started with an invocation to Lord Krishna. This was followed by the teachers narrating the diverse leelas of the popular deity in a PPT. The children were told about Krishnas playful childhood and his love for butter.
To inculcate the importance of hardwork, a short story about Narada Rishi and Krishna was narrated to the children with the moral, God appreciates those who work hard and count their blessings. The famous bond between the childhood friends Sudama and Lord Krishna, was described as an example of the true love and transparent relationship between life long friends .
The children were very excited to see their teachers, Ms. Ifrah Khan and Ms. Monica Sehgal dressed as Radha and Krishna. They too danced along to the popular Janmashtami songs.
In their regular virtual classroom, the little Indianites drew images of Krishna as they learned that Krishna is portrayed in blue as blue signifies infinity.
The celebration was truly entertaining and educating.
