National Experimental Skill Test ( NAEST) 2017

The National Anveshika Network of India (NANI) conducted the National Experimental Skill Test (NEST) at 19 centres across the country. NEST is organized at two levels:

(1) School Level (Class 9 to Class 12) (2) College Level (BSc/MSc)

The screening of NAEST 2017 (National Anveshika Experimental Skills Test) was held on 19th August 2017 at the Sadhu Vaswani International School, Shanti Niketan. About 294 students from 60 schools participated in the preliminary round.

Anveshika (which means Explorer) is the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) initiative to create centres across India where students and teachers can learn experiment-based Physics and try out their own ideas. Anveshika centres are established at different places in the country under the National Anveshika Network of India (NANI) initiative. Anveshika is essentially an open-ended laboratory where uncommon experiments are set up without constraints of any board syllabus or examination. New experiments are continuously designed as and when ideas arise amongst the students or the teachers.

The preliminary round was an objective video quiz consisting of eight videos based on phenomena of Physics studied by students in senior classes. Each short video was followed by short, logical questions.

The class XII students who participated in the event from our School were Saruby Sharma, Nikhil Rana, Tarun Singh Rana, Rhythm Narang and Harsh Gupta.

The quiz was not only brain-storming but also aroused our curiosity for simple yet exciting phenomenon. We hope that such quizzes gain more popularity as they prompt students to acquire practical knowledge. This is imperative as such exposure forms the base of research.

Saruby Sharma, (XII-A).
