Nurturing Environmental Responsibility Through Sparrow Conservation in Middle School
The Indian School organised an awareness workshop on sparrow conservation on 6 July for the students of Classes VI, VII and VIII as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering environmental responsibility and community engagement.
The workshop was conducted by Adreja Newar and Swarnima Bist of Class X, who led the participants through a series of engaging and thought-provoking activities. The session commenced with an interactive case study that examined the alarming decline in sparrow populations, highlighting factors such as habitat loss, rapid urbanisation and environmental changes. Students participated enthusiastically in discussions and consolidated their learning through an engaging quiz, making the session both informative and enjoyable.
A major highlight of the workshop was the hands'-on activity during which students designed and created bird houses and bird feeders using simple, eco-friendly materials. This practical exercise encouraged them to provide safe nesting spaces and dependable food sources for sparrows and other local birds, reinforcing the importance of individual action in wildlife conservation.
The workshop successfully blended awareness with experiential learning, inspiring students to become responsible stewards of the environment. By encouraging creativity, critical thinking and meaningful action, the initiative strengthened students' understanding of biodiversity conservation and motivated them to play an active role in protecting sparrows and preserving the natural world.
