Sahapedia- A CBSE endeavaour for heritage education
On 2, May 2013 CBSE conducted a seminar at our School for the students of classes 8 and 9 on the working and functioning of Sahapedia.
Sahapedia is a multi-lingual encyclopedic web resource on Indian culture and heritage. Saha - the Sanskrit word for unity or participation is the basis of this mission. Saha is also the acronym of Stirring Action on Heritage and the Arts, a Not-for-Profit Society based in Delhi, which has joined hands with CMC Ltd., a TATA enterprise, and the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad.
Vaibhav Chauhan, project manager Sahapedia familiarised the students with the fact that Indias diverse knowledge traditions, spanning several centuries and different disciplines are manifested in a mode of inter-connectedness and non-linearity and to provide an integral understanding of each discipline, tradition and form, Sahapedia will provide multiple entry points such as articles, images, maps, audio-video material, learning modules, blogs and social networking communitie. It will thus help to explore the full potential of the online medium. Such an experience of Indian knowledge systems and heritage, integrating multiple formats, does not presently exist in the web world.
The Sahapedia team asked a number of questions pertaining to the monument which our School has adopted. They also asked about our celebrations of Earth & Heritage Days to assess the level of heritage understanding amongst the students. Their assessment was that the level of familiarity and sensitisation towards our heritage is good.

The students were also informed that they could now feature in the CBSE Sahapedia by contributing their own bit on the little known aspects of our Indian culture, infact some students have already started working on it!
To conclude CBSE with Sahapedia has created a space for synergy in the area of heritage education and as an educational project, Sahapedia will be an extremely valuable tool for educators as well as students at various levels of their academic lives.
