Sports Day 2023-24

On the vibrant morning of 30 December 2023, The Indian School and The Indian School-Second Shift orchestrated a symphony of excitement and exuberance at the Thyagaraj Stadium for a grand School Sports Day. Eager parents flocked to the stadium, their hearts brimming with anticipation as their children prepared to dazzle in this spectacular event. The atmosphere crackled with energy, and the celestial strains of the School choir’s ethereal rendition of the Saraswati Vandana set an auspicious beginning to the grand sporting event.

Ms Tania Joshi, Principal, extended a gracious welcome to the esteemed guests, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their encouraging presence. She unveiled this year’s Sports Day theme—a poetic tribute to Mother Nature.

Ms Brinda Shroff shared a heartfelt message from Mr Prafull Goradia, School Chairman, emphasising the institution’s role as a temple of learning rooted in Indian values and guided by the Sanskara Syllabus.

Ms Shroff reaffirmed our School’s commitment to navigating the educational seas, crafting ocean liners with Indian anchors and ethical rudders. The stage was then graced by Chief Guest, Shrimati Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, and Member of Parliament from New Delhi. Dr Anu Singh, Vice-principal, symbolically welcomed her with a green plant, signifying the School’s dedication to a sustainable environment.

In a stirring address, the Honourable Minister lauded the School’s efforts in preserving India’s cultural tapestry, quoting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for the “Amrit Kaal.” She infused the gathering with a sense of purpose, stressing the students’ role in shaping a self-reliant and developed India by 2057 to celebrate 100 years of India’s independence. Ms Lekhi’s impassioned call for a paradigm shift in parental attitudes towards sports resonated, and she administered a pledge, igniting a flame of commitment toward a flourishing and proud India.

The chief guest’s address paved the way for the council members, led by Head Girl Falak Rahi, to take the Sports Oath. The atmosphere transitioned from solemnity to delight as the young Pre School, Pre Primary and class I performers painted a vibrant tapestry of the animal kingdom, embodying the spirit of Vasudeva Kutumbakam.

A mesmerising blend of athletic prowess and cultural diversity unfolded, showcasing India’s rich heritage through folk dances. The performances, a fusion of fitness routines and Indian folk dances, included Bhangra, Gatka, Garbha, Bihu, Chhau, Mayurbhanj, and the spirited Goa Carnival. The stadium resounded with cheers and applause from exultant parents, especially during the spirited Flat and Relay races.

The class XII batch of 2023-24, bidding adieu with a heartfelt Bhangra performance, left an indelible mark. The grand finale underscored the School’s commitment to environmental sustainability, with participants forming a powerful message: “Save the Earth” under the colourful placards representing the seven continents.

Dr (Mrs) Nayana Goradia, distinguished member of the School Managing Committee, awarded trophies to outstanding athletes, recognising their exemplary skills, determination, talent, and sportsmanship. In the Senior Category, Parth Tara (XII A) and Tina Daga (XII D) received the Best Athlete Trophies. In the Sub-Junior Category, Ritwik Bakshi (IX A), Priyanshi Sharma (IX B), Jigisha Roshan (VI C), and Aditya Patra (VI C) took home the Best Athlete trophies.
A friendly tug-of-war between parents and class XII added a delightful touch of camaraderie!

In her heartfelt vote of thanks, Principal Tania Joshi acknowledged the collective effort that culminated in the event’s success. Everyone rose in unison for the national anthem, symbolising unity and patriotism.

This fusion of cultural performances, athletic feats, and collaborative spirit epitomised School’s commitment to holistic development. The event radiated pride, unity, and sportsmanship, leaving an enduring mark on the school community.
