Teacher workshop on Theatre as a teaching tool in the classroom
The Pre Primary and Primary teachers attended an engaging Theatre Workshop conducted by Mr. Anindya Pushpendra on 30 June 2026. Centred on the theme "Water", the workshop demonstrated how theatre, movement, and experiential learning can be used to make classroom concepts more meaningful and engaging. The session commenced with breathing exercises designed to help participants relax, improve concentration, and prepare both the mind and body for creative expression.
The workshop then progressed through a series of interactive activities that explored the three states of water through movement. Teachers used varying levels, paces, and body postures to represent solid, liquid, and gas—portraying ice through slow, rigid movements, water through smooth, flowing actions, and gas through light, expansive movements.
Building on this, participants enacted the process of evaporation by gradually freeing their movements and rising upwards, symbolising water vapour ascending into the atmosphere. Another highlight of the session was an improvisation (improv) activity in which teachers collaboratively developed spontaneous solutions to a given problem scenario. This exercise illustrated how theatre can foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication while encouraging learners to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
The workshop successfully showcased the value of embodied and experiential learning in the classroom. Through a blend of movement, imagination, and dramatic expression, it demonstrated how theatre-based pedagogy can simplify complex concepts and make learning both enjoyable and memorable for young learners. The session was highly interactive, insightful, and enriching, leaving participants with practical strategies and renewed inspiration to integrate drama and movement into their everyday teaching practices.
