The 9th Dr. Amidas Goradia Inter-school Debate in Hindi, 13 November, 2013

The 9th Dr. Amidas Goradia Inter-school Debate in Hindi was hosted by our School on 13 November, 2013 with great enthusiasm.The children of classes 4 and 5 from 19 leading schools of Delhi participated in the event.

Renowned Kathak exponent, Padmabhushan Uma Sharma graced the occasion as Chief Guest. She is known for her experiments with Kathak which has helped the dance form to travel the boundaries of Raas-Leela to include Ghazal and Urdu shayari. Her famous presentation, 'Stree' received great acclaim both within India and abroad.

The panel of judges included luminaries as Dr. Veena Sharma, Asst. Prof. Hindi at Gargi College; Mrs. Vandana Agarwal, Chief Copy Editor Hindustan; Mr Sangam Pandey, Executive Editor of Hans magazine; Mr. Parijat Tripathi, print and electronic media expert and formerly Production Assistant in New York for Channel 11 and Mrs. Anita Gaur, Special correspondent of the news letter, Chauthi-Duniya .

The topics offered at this years contest were

1 Saari suvidhaen hai paas phir bhi kuch paane ki hai aas 2 Baageche main jaana chodo mall se nata jodo 3 Guruve namah nahi Googlae namah 4 Atithi devo bhavah 5 Hindi se door hota baccha angregi main bahoot achha

The most popular topic amongst the contestants were bageeche main jaana chodo Mall se nata jodo while the next most popular was Guruve namah nahi Googlae namah.

To prove their points of view, the children presented very interesting prospectives. The best speaker declared, Anika recalled the Mahabharatas palace of illusions where it was difficult to differentiate between water and land. She said, today, a similar confusion exists between guru and google! Guru is the creator of knowledge whereas Google is merely knowledge centre, she insisted. She compared Google with a restaurant where you can get any thing on order (whether or not it is good or bad for you)!

Since the competition was only in the junior category, there were no interjections.

The laurels received by students in various categories were as below.

1st prize Anika Malhotra from The Indian School 2nd prize Devanshi Sagar from The Indian School 3rd prize Aanya Kathwalia from Airforce Bal Bharti

school Overall Debate results

Winner The Indian School ( We did not accept the Trophy as is customary at our School since we were the hosts);

The Rolling trophy to Air Force Bal Bharti School and the 2nd place was taken by Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School

The vote of thanks was offered by our HOD, Hindi department, Dr. Shikha Sharma. The audience was extremely appreciative as were the visiting schools.
