THE INDIANITE MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN) 2023-24

The Model United Nations (MUN) Conference held on 19 and 20 January 2024 was indeed a remarkable event, showcasing diplomatic prowess, intellectual discourse, and organisational excellence. The Secretariat, led by Secretary General Haritmaa Sharma, Deputy Secretary General Sejal Gupta, and Director General Rudra Punj, played a crucial role in orchestrating the conference, which brought together participants to deliberate on critical global issues across six committees: UNGA, UNHRC, UNSC, JPS, G20, and IPC.

The committees addressed a diverse range of topics, and each committee recognised outstanding delegates for their contributions. In the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) committee, chaired by Ryan Suri, Khushboo Arora, and Wanshika Saxena, the delegates engaged in in-depth discussions on human rights situations in Israel, Palestine, and various Arab nations. The Best Delegate award was secured by UAE (Hannan Hussian), with High Commendation going to Israel (Nalini Thakur ), and Special Mention to Cuba (Vanshika Kumar) and Ukraine (Kabeer Luthra).

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) committee, led by Satwik Mitra, Aadya Sharma, and Pavani Aggarwal, focused on LGBTQIA+ community issues, particularly workplace discrimination. Iceland (Harshil Jain) received the Best Delegate award, while Australia (Khushal Bansal) earned High Commendation. Special Mentions were accorded to Austria (Unnati Mishra) and Canada (Disha Verma ).

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) committee, under the leadership of Jahanobi Roy, Sejal Gupta and Ritika Joshi, addressed the Sudanese conflict, emphasising policy changes, rehabilitation of war victims, and fostering peace through UN Peacekeeping efforts. Mexico (Md. Arslan and Sannvi Divya) secured the Best Delegate award, with High Commendation going to USA (Pragyan Medhi and Prateek Singh Kocchhar). Special Mentions were awarded to India (Manya Jain) and France (Aditya Singh).

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) committee, chaired by Aryan Singh, Vidya Taneja, and Vani Chadha, explored the socio-economic framework of India. The Best Delegate title was awarded to Narendra Modi (Amrita Arun), with Nitin Gadkari (Kanishk Ahlawat) receiving High Commendation. Special Mentions went to Shashi Tharoor (Laksh Arora) and Asaduddin Owaisi (Diya Mishra).

The G20 Committee, led by Jai Adlakha and Riya Malhotra, delved into the rising concern over Digital Currency and Cyber Terrorism. Australia (Rishietdeep Singh) received the Best Delegate award, while Japan (Asmi Sadh and Dishita Rathi) earned High Commendation. The USA (Vansh Sharma) received a Special Mention.

In the International Press Corps (IPC), with Jasleen Kaur and Pranya Sadh at the helm, awards were given for outstanding contributions. Shiksha Dwivedi received the Best Caricaturist and Photographer award, Hitisha Mehta was honoured Best Journalist, and High Commendation went to Krunal Patel and Samiya Khurana. A Special Mention was accorded to Aman Kapoor.

The success of the event can be attributed to the commendable efforts of the entire organising team, who demonstrated dedication and meticulous planning to ensure a smooth and enriching experience for all participants. The conference served as a platform for young minds to engage in meaningful dialogue, showcasing their diplomatic skills and fostering a sense of global responsibility.
