Top honours at INTACH film competition

The inception of the Indi3³an National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) in 1984 represented a significant milestone in promoting heritage awareness and conservation in India. Based in New Delhi, INTACH has emerged as a globally recognised heritage organisation, with a widespread network of over 190 chapters across the country. Over the last three decades, INTACH has spearheaded innovative conservation initiatives, expanding its scope beyond the preservation of natural and built heritage to encompass intangible heritage as well.

Notably, INTACH’s commitment to heritage preservation materialised through initiatives like FilmIt, an innovative multicultural project facilitating the creation of short films by students, providing them with a unique avenue to explore and document their city’s rich heritage. Generously funded by the Helen Hamlyn Trust from the United Kingdom, the project is an integral component of the Open Futures FilmIt programme.

On February 1, 2024, a significant event took place at the India International Centre (IIC) where the FilmIt project showcased its impact. Engaging students of classes VI, VII, and VIII the event drew representatives from approximately 20 schools, each accompanied by one teacher and a cohort of four to five students

Distinguished personalities graced the occasion, including Rintu Thomas, Himanshi Saini, and several accomplished filmmakers and journalists. The esteemed presence of INTACH and IIC chairpersons added an extra layer of significance to the event.

The event began with an insightful overview of FILMIT and its background, providing a context for students to share their experiences through speeches, poems, and songs related to their filmmaking journey. The climax of the event showcased the screening of the best films from across Delhi and India.
